Users looking to send less than 10,000 emails a month would be financially better off paying for a pay as you go package of 10,000 emails which they can use as they wish within one year. Those of us however with lists of more than 10,000 should consider signing up for one of Vertical Response’s monthly plans which even come with a discount of 10% or 15% if you choose to sign up for 6 or 12 months respectively.

However, it must be noted that pay is you go is a far more flexible option and would certainly be preferable to those of us slightly unsure of how many emails we will end up sending in any given month. Basically, you only pay for the emails you send, which is ideal for beginners in the world of email marketing, or those of us whose email requirements vary from month to month. In terms of price, the pay as you go option is the one of the most economic options in this category for any user sending less than 1000 emails a month. Past this quantity, as long as your emailing needs are pretty regular, we would recommend signing up for a monthly plan. Vertical Response is price competitive only for their contracts of 25,000+ subscribers per month. So to those with lists of between 1000 and 25,000 subscribers, we would recommend looking elsewhere.

However, price is just one of many factors that should be taken into account before making any decision on which email marketing service is best for you. This brings us on to Vertical Response’s marketing email editor which, we can safely say, is one of the simplest in this category. It is based on a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface which makes adding new content, pictures, links, custom fonts, colors and much more a breeze. By simply pointing, clicking, dragging and dropping it is possible to quickly and easily put together a professional looking marketing email without having to understand HTML. Furthermore, the 700+ templates available with Vertical Response will save you a lot of time while ensuring your emails remain unique and suited to your needs. This said, for those with some technical knowhow, it is still possible to upload and edit your own HTML templates. Overall, Vertical Response’s design tools and interface are some of the most intuitive on the market and certainly represent one of their strongest selling points.

One thing that, for us, made Vertical Response stand out from the crowd was their iPhone app which, although admittedly does need some work, is free to download from iTunes and allows users to get a snap shot of their progress from their iPhone, no matter where they are. We do hope Vertical Response continue to develop this app as it has great potential to appeal to their target market; on-the-go entrepreneurs. Being an innovative and forward looking company, we expect them to do so, and in the meanwhile we really enjoyed being able to quickly check up on our campaigns from the convenience of our iPhone.

Another area in which Vertical Response stand out from the competition is in their customer support. They have live chat (Monday thru Friday from 6am – 5pm Pacific) to answer your quick questions, email for those with more technical issues, and a twitter account for more general email marketing chit chat. Best of all however, is their toll free help line which is available 7 days a week; perfect for the entrepreneur who doesn’t work a nine to five in the office, which is increasingly common these days. The fact that Vertical Response have cottoned on to this really does demonstrate their pioneering role in this market which really caught our eye. But don’t just take our word for it. Vertical Response was last year awarded the Best Support Team award at the American Business Awards 2012. Combine this personal support with the extensive library of training materials, articles, podcasts, and videos that are designed to help users succeed in their email marketing efforts, and it becomes clear why Vertical Response is one of the market leaders in this category.

Although Vertical Response may not offer the best price plan for everyone, for list sizes of over 25,000 they can match the prices of the cheapest contracts in this category. Furthermore, users with very low monthly subscriber requirements will find Vertical Response to be possibly one of the cheapest companies out there.
